During the annual ITA Regional Tournament, this year hosted by Middlebury Fri.-Sun., Sept. 27-29, Wesleyan had four singles entries and a pair of doubles teams involved. Among the Cardinal participants, the doubles team of Zach Brint '16 (right side photo) and Cameron Hicks '17 (left side photo) had the top performance as they won a pair of matches, including an 8-3 second-round victory over a top-eight seeded pair from Bates. Brint and Hicks were eliminated by an Amherst tandem which entered the tournament as the top seed. Wesleyan other doubles group, Sam Rudovsky '16 and Greg Lyon '17 lost to a Colby opponent in the first round.
In singles play, three Cardinals won their opening matches before going out in the second round. Stephen Monk '15, Michael Liu '17 and Michael King '16 all went 1-1 during the tournament. Jake Roberts '17 was the only Cardinal not to win a singles match, but it was certainly understandable as he was pitted against an unseeded Bowdoin entry who went on to win the tournament with a 6-0 record, including a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 win in the finals against another unseeded player representing Williams.
The final action of the fall campaign for the men comes up Fri., Oct. 11 when the team travels to Hartford for a dual match.
