Jake Roberts '17 and Michael King '16 Are Singles Winners in Opening Men's Tennis Dual Match at Williams

Taking on defending NCAA Division III champion Williams in their inaugural dual match of the fall, the Cardinals came was with two singles victories to show for their efforts as Williams secured a 7-2 triumph Sat., Sept. 21.

Most impressive was #1 player Jake Robert '17 (photo insert upper right), who downed his Williams rival, Matt Micheli, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.  Micheli was an ITA Division III All-American in 2013 and played #2 singles for the Ephs in their 2013 NCAA title match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, winning a 6-2, 6-2 match.  Also victorious for the Cardinals at #3 singes was Michal King '16 (main photo), as he took the first set, 6-1, before falling in the second frame, 7-5.  He then captured the match with a 10-6 win in the super tie-breaker.  At #6 singles, Greg Lyon '17 gave his rival quite a match before falling, 6-7, 4-6.

In double play, the #1 duo of Stephen Monk '15 and Cameron Hick '17 fell by a tight 5-8 score, as did Zach Brint '16 and Lyon at #2.

Ahead for the Cardinals is the ITA regional tournament at Middlebury over the weekend of Fri.-Sun., Sept. 27-29.
