With three entries at the New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Sat., May 4, Wesleyan came through with a pair of medals as the third varsity 8 took home a silver medal while the second varsity 8 secured a bronze. The varsity 8 was one spot shy of medaling, placing fourth among 14 crews, just two seconds behind third-place Bates for the final medal.
The varsity 8 placed second in its heat, 2.3 second behind Trinity as both advanced to the grand final. In the grand final, Trinity edged Williams for the gold by 0.9 seconds. Bates was third, 6.5 second behind the winner. Representing the Cardinals in the race was the lineup of Ben Record '15, Tenzin Masselli '15, Keegan Dufty '14, Noah Solomon '14, Chris Nanda '16, Peter Martin '14, Trevor Michelson '13 (photo lower right), Sam Hoefle '13 (photo lower middle) and cox Grant Nikols '13. Both the second and third varsity 8 was victorious in its heat before going on for a medal. There were 11 entries in the second varsity 8 race and nine in the third varsity 8 affair.
The same boating took to the water in Worcester Sun., May 12 for the ECAC Collegiate Championships, the last event of the season. Wesleyan had both Trinity and Williams in its heat and finished 11 seconds behind the Ephs, which nosed out Trinity by 2.3 seconds. Wesleyan also trailed WPI at the finish, a squad Wesleyan had defeated twice by narrow margins during the spring. Competing in the petite final, Wesleyan placed fifth for an 11th place overall finish among 19 entries. In their final races, the second varsity 8 took seventh of 16, winning the petite final. The third varsity 8 was eighth of 12.
Following the season, Michelson was recognized as a first-team all-NESCAC performer while Hoefle earned a spot on the all-NESCAC second-team.
