Cardinals Come up Short against Top-Ranked Williams, Hope to Rebound vs. #2 Ranked Trinity at Home
The women's crew traveled to Worcester, Mass. Sun., April 21 to race Little Three rival and #1 ranked Williams. The event ewas to take place in Middletown the day before, but water conditions forced a postponement and change of venue. In the varsity race, the Cardinals maintained contact with Williams through the 1000-meter mark but then Williams made a move that shifted the momentum of the race. The Ephs began to edge out and the Cardinals were not able to keep the overlap of the crews. "It's never fun to lose to a rival but we put up a great fight for the first half of the race," said Head Coach Pat Tynan. "We have not found our peak speed quite yet and the crew is ready to keep working toward that. Our race time shows that we can go fast over 2000 meters. Williams just covered that distance faster that us today," Coach Tynan added. The varsity line up was coxswain Ari Rudess '15, Avery Mushinski '15, Remy Johnson '16, Kayla Cloud '14, Clare Doyle '14, Annie Dade '16, Margo Tercek '13, Robin Cotter '13 and Emilie Sinkler '14. The times showed Williams in 6:31.5 and Wesleyan in 6:43.5.
Wesleyan also fell short in the second varsity and third varsity events. In the 2V, Williams won in 6:51. Wesleyan finished in 7:09.6. In the 3V, Williams had a time of 7:11.5. Wesleyan finished in 7:38.3
The crew, ranked sixth nationally, will be at home Sat., April 27, racing second-ranked Trinity in the final dual event of the spring. The action begins at 9:00 a.m.
