With a Pair of Pins from Nick Scotto '13, Wrestling, Ranked #29, Goes 1-1 on Opening Day of Dual Matches
Nick Scotto '13 (photo) added a pair of first-period pins to his seasonal credits Sat., Dec. 8 as he raised his regular-season mark to 11-1 at 141 pounds, helping the #29-ranked nationally Cardinals go 1-1 on the opening day of dual matches. Wesleyan downed RIC, 34-9, but fell to #23-ranked Wilkes, 24-16. Wesleyan won 11 matches on the day with Scotto the most convincing with his 12 team points. Of his 11 victories thus far, eight have come by pin. Last week when he won three of his four matches by pin to take the 141-pound title at the RIT Invitational with a 4-0 mark, Scotto was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament as well as New England Wrestling Association Wrestler of the Week.
Three other Cardinals accounted for two wins against Wilkes and RIC as Howard Tobochnik '13 won two solid decisions, 16-5 and 11-4, respectively, at 157 pounds. Jefferson Ajayi '13, who was champion at RIT at 184 pounds, produced a 9-3 decision vs. Wilkes and a first-period pin vs. RIC. Kyle Roosa, at 174 pounds, followed up his title at RIT with a 7-3 decision against Wilkes and a forfeit victory vs. RIC.
Also with wins against RIC were Simon Levin '16 with a first-period pin at 165 pounds; Alex Cannon '14, who captured a 7-2 decision at 149 pounds; and 197-pounder Josh Roometua '16 with an 11-1 decision.
Ahead for the team is the annual North-South Duals hosted by Ursinus Sat., Jan. 5. Opponents, usually four on the day, will be announced shortly.
