Racking up 128 team points to finish fourth among 16 competing teams, just 0.5 points behind third-place and host Springfield, the Cardinals came through with flying colors during the opening regular-season tournament, the annual Doug Parker Invitational Sat., Nov. 17.
While complete bracket summaries are not yet available, six Cardinal grapplers finished among the top four in their weight class, led by Maika Nagata '13 (photo) at 133 pounds. He reached the finals, losing a 6-3 decision in the championship bout. Four other Wesleyan team members took third place in their weight class with 5-1 marks - Nick Scotto '13 at 141 ; Howard Tobochnik '13 at 157 ; Kyle Roosa '13 at 174 ; and Jefferson Ajayi '13 at 184. Also coming through with a fourth-place showing was Josh Roometua '16 at 197.
Wesleyan resumes tournament action Sat., Dec. 1 with a trip to RIT for its annual invitational.
