Women's Basketball Starts 2nd Half with 25-0 Run to Blow Past Purchase and Into Title game at St. Joseph

Holding a 32-23 lead at halftime of their season-opening game against SUNY Purchase in the first round of the St. Joseph (CT) Tip-Off Tournament Fri., Nov. 16, the Cardinals scored the first 25 points of the second half for an insurmountable 57-23 lead en route to a 67-35 win and a meeting with the host in the title game Sat., Nov. 17.  St. Joseph demolished Fisher, 80-45, in its contest.

Miller Hartsoe '15 (#12, photo) had a strong outing with a career-high 12 points and six rebounds, tying for the team lead in points and pacing the squad on the boards.  Equaling her in scoring was Amber Wessells '14 while Cherkira Lashley '15 was right behind with 11.  Both Lashley and Hartsoe connected on both their three-point attempts as the Cardinals went 6-for-16 from behind the arc.  Hartsoe had six points and two of her three assists in the game during the opening 13 minutes of the second half, triggering the 25-0 burst.  Kendra Harris '13 also had six points in the stretch including the first five points of the half.

In facing St. Joseph in the championship game, Wesleyan has enjoyed tremendous success against the Blue Jays over the years with a 10-1 record.  The last time the teams met was in West Hartford in 2009 when the Cardinals used a 36-0 scoring run to secure a 77-15 triumph.
