Michael King '16 Takes Singles Match vs. National Power Williams in Little Three Opener - Four Cards Compete in ITAs
Taking on Little Three rival Williams in the first of their matches against their arch rivals, the Cardinals fell to the perennial national power Ephs by a 7-2 count at home Sat., Sept. 15. Wesleyan came away with a victory at #3 singles, thanks to Michael King '16 (photo) as he captured a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Also providing Wesleyan with a team point was the #2 doubles tandem of Jeff Legunn '13 and Sam Rudovsky '16 with a solid 8-3 win. It was just the second time in the last 20 meetings vs. the Ephs that the Cardinals produced two team points as newcomers factored into both triumphs.
Next for the squad was a trip to Williams for the annual ITA reigonal tournament Fri., Sept. 28-Sun., Sept. 30 for four Cardinal members. There Legunn and Stephen Monk '15 dropped their singles matches. Legunn fell 8-10 in the super tie-breaker after splitting sets vs. a Conn. College rival. Monk lost in straight sets to a Middlebury opponent. The doubles team of Zach Brint '16 and King was a winner vs. a UMass Boston pair, 9-7, before losing to a seeded Williams tandem, 3-8.
The dual match season resumes Fri., Oct. 5 at home vs. Babson.
