With just one senior in the starting lineup, Wesleyan fashioned its seventh consecutive winning ledger with an 8-5 overall record and defeated three NESCAC rivals (Colby, Hamilton and Conn. College) along the way. Leading the way at the #1 spot was Grace Smith '14 (left side photo), who had a 7-5 singles mark and a 9-4 doubles record. She teamed with Lauren Jacobs '15 (right side photo) for a 4-0 doubles record as Jacobs equaled Smith with a 7-5 singles mark, half at #4 and half at #6. She also had a solid 8-5 doubles record for the year.
In the team's final two matches against two nationally ranked squads Trinity (28th) Sat., April 28 and Amherst (3rd) Sun., April 29, Wesleyan fell by counts of 8-1 and 9-0, respectively. Jacobs was the lone Cardinal winner against the Bantams with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at #6. Smith stretch her Bantam rival to three sets, losing in a super tie-breaker, 10-6. Kiley Robbins '14, who had a 7-6 singles record during the season, fell in a pair of close sets, 7-5, 6-4. Against Amherst, Madison Hartley '15 took a set before falling in a super tie-breaker, also 10-6.
With only Sarah Miller '12 lost from the starting lineup, Wesleyan will return in solid shape for the fall of 2012 when the team resumes action.
