Wrestling Rallies with Victories in Final Three Bouts to Defeat Oswego, 22-15, and Win for 10th Time in Last 11 Outings

Trailing 15-12 heading into the last three bouts of their final dual match of the 2011-12 campaign vs. Oswego St. Sat., Feb 11, the Cardinals got a victory from Howard Tobochnik '13 at 149 pounds to even the match at 15-15 before Alex Cannon '14 (bottom photo) posted a 3-0 decision at 157 pounds, followed by an 11-3 major decision by Tom Oddo '12 (top photo) at 165 to give Wesleyan a 22-15 triumph.  With the win, the Cardinals put the finishing touches on their fourth straight winning season at 11-6 and picked up their 10th win in their last 11 outings.

Wesleyan took six bouts on the day as Kyle Roosa '13 started things off with a major decision at 174 and Luke Erickson '12 added a technical fall at 197 to spot the Cardinals a 9-3 lead.  Joey Schwartz '14 won a solid decison at 133 before Tobochnik, Cannon and Oddo wrapped things up with their wins. Schwartz ended the dual-meet season with an outstanding 9-1 record while both Tobochnik and Jeferson Ajayi '13, who dropped a tough two-point decision to Oswego, posted solid 13-4 marks.  Right behind with a 12-5 record was Roosa.

Next, the team sent six wrestler to the NEWA Futures Tournament at Roger Williams Sun., Feb. 19. Led by the third-place finish of Austin Frank '15 in the heavyweight division, the Cardinals placed eighth of 11 teams.

The regular season concludes when Wesleyan hosts the annual NEWA Championships Sat.-Sun., Feb. 25-26, with spots in the NCAA Division III Championships up for grabs. The finals of each weight class Sunday evening will be webcast and can be viewed by clicking here.
