Capturing the mile event in a time of 5:30.43, Ceili Brennan '13 (photo, in red) outpaced a field of 21 entrants and defeated rivals from NESCAC colleges Conn. College, Amherst, Trinity and Bowdoin along the way. Her margin of victory was a narrow .33 seconds. Whil Brennan was the only Cardinal to snag top honors, two others placed second in very competitive races as Julia Mark '13 covered 5000m in 18:56.09 and Ambrosia Smith '15 bested 26 runners in the field of 28 finishers in the 800m event with her 2:25.45 effort.
The 4x400m relay squad of Julia Frieze '12, Heidi Hirvonen '15, Smith and Lia Monti '13 also was a second-place finisher among 13 entries. Frieze earned third place inidividually in the 400m (1:00.63) while Hivonen was fourth (1:01.29). Other top performances for the Cardinals came from Sierra Livious '14 in the 60m hurdles (3rd, :09.50), Olivia Grant '15 in the 60m dash (5th, :08.22), Idara Foster '15 in the 200m (5th, :27.38) and Libby Lazare '14 in the 5k (5th, 19:44.93).
Wesleyan headed to Boston for its next meet, the Donahue Indoor Games at Northeastern Fri., Jan. 27. The Cardinals had a pair of placewinners, helping the team post five points and take 13th place of 14 scoring teams. Grant grabbed 7th in the 55m dash (:07.47) while the 4x400m relay quartet of Frieze, Hirvonen, Smith and Kimora Brock '15 secured sixth (4:07.18).
The Cardinals return to the Boston area Fri.-Sat., Feb. 3-4 to take part in the Tufts Invitational.
