Cardinals Win Seven of Eight Events Entered during Wesleyan Invitational I Meet to Open Indoor Campaign

Wesleyan had entries in eight of the 15 events held during the Wesleyan Invitational I indoor meet Sat., Dec. 3, to inaugurate the 2011-12 indoor season.  Cardinals took first place in seven of the eight events led by Sierra Livious '14 (main photo, clearing hurdle), who won both the 60m hurdles with a time of :09.68 and the shot put with a toss of 36-2 3/4.  She also took third in the 200m race, which was won by Heidi Hirvonen '15 (:28.13).  Julia Frieze '12 (photo insert lower right) took the 400m race in a time of 1:02.13.  Wesleyan's other first-place efforts came from Idara Foster '15 in the 60m dash (:08.17), Ambrosia Smith '15 in the 600m (1:49.13) and the 4x400m relay squad of Frieze, Melissa Luning '15, Geneva Jonathan '15 and Smith (4:17.29).

The Wesleyan Invitational I was non-scoring and featured visiting teams CCRI, Mt. St. Mary's and Medgar Evers.

The next meet for the Cardinals is Sat., Jan. 13 in New York City when Wesleyan takes part in the Gotham Cup at the Armory.
