Cardinals Roll Past Albertus Magnus, 3-0, as Kim Farris '14 & Casey Reed '12 Lead the Attack
Meeting for the first time since 2005, Wesleyan and Albertus Magnus renewed their volleyball rivalry Tues., Sept. 13 as the Cardinals stayed unbeaten against the Falcons all-time with their ninth victory, taking a 3-0 decision at home.
In the opening set, Wesleyan jumped ahead, 6-1, and held a 15-4 advantage on its way to a comfortable 25-7 victory. Albertus led early in the second set, 7-5, but the Cardinals forged into the lead and ended up rattling off 20 of the next 23 points for a 25-10 win. The squads were tied 10-10 in the third set before Wesleyan took the lead for good and came away with a 25-15 win for the sweep.
Leading Wesleyan offensively with 13 kills was Kim Farris '14 (#2, photo), who also added three blocks. Casey Reed '12 was next with 11 kills while Monica Leslie '14 added eight. Reed also had 10 digs and three aces in the match. Laura Yim '13 collected 24 assists and three aces. Wesleyan's dig leader was Jeanne McPhee '13 with 12. Katie Schad '13 added 10 digs to the Wesleyan cause.
Wesleyan moves into conference play for its next matches as the Cardinals hosts a NESCAC weekend, taking on Amherst Friday, Sept. 16, followed by Middlebury Saturday, Sept. 17. The Amherst match, starting at 6 pm, will be webcast and can be viewed by clicking < here
