Mike Barsotti '12 (photos), a member of the New Bedford Bay Sox in the prestigious New England Collegiate Baseball League during the summer of 2011, had a standout pitching performance against Team USA on Wednesday, June 29th. The USA national team is composed of the very best college baseball players in the nation, and Barsotti fared very well, throwing the final three innings, allowing only one run, while striking out three batters. The Bay Sox lost to Team USA, 7-5. The collegiate national team won each of its six games against NECBL teams but lost against an NECBL all-star squad by a 3-2 count.
The NECBL is recognized as one of the premier summer collegiate development leagues in the world, considered a "pro-prospect league," and is funded in part by Major League Baseball.
Barsotti has been a stalwart on the mound for Wesleyan in his first three years, serving as the Friday starter his sophomore and junior seasons. In 169 career innings, he has struck out 165 batters, while only walking 51.
