Tommie Lark '12 Wins Triple Jump at Tufts Invite with NCAA-Provisional Effort, Also Wins Long Jump
Winning the triple jump at the Tufts Invitational Sat., Feb. 5, with a leap of 47-1 1/2, Tommie Lark '12 (photo) came within one-quarter inch of the school record he set in 2009 but it was more than good enough to rank him among the top-10 nationally in Division III this season and qualify him provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships. The meet, attended by about 20 colleges, was unscored.
Lark also won the long jump with a 21-8 1/4 performance. Other top efforts by Cardinals at Tufts included a pair of runs by Ernest Wingate '14 as he nailed down fifth place in the 400m (:51.86) and seventh in the 55m hurdles (:08.79). Jack Pacelle '13 took eighth in the 400m and the 4x200m relay squad of James Dottin 13, Alex Iwamoto '12, Kyle Shin '11 and Allen Mack '13 took sixth.
The next action for the squad came up Sat., Feb. 12 at home when Wesleyan served as host of the Collegiate Track Championships. Wesleyan competed unofficially in the meet as an unscored entry. Still, a few of the Cardinals' top efforts came from Skyler Cummins '13 in the 3k as he would have won the event in 8:38.26 and Bryan Marsh '13 would have been third (8:39.84). Ernest Wingate '14 would have been third in the 400m (:51.77) as would the 4x400m relay squad of Wingate, Jack Pacelle '13, Paulie Lowther '13 and Tommie Lark '12 (3:27.56).
Ahead for the team is a annual New England Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield, Fri. & Sat., Feb. 18-19, for those Cardinals who have met the qualifying standards for the meet.
