Six second behind in second place was Charles Lang '11 (right in photo) as they were two of six Cardinal top-three finishes during the event.

Other top-three efforts came from sprinters Jack Pacelle '13 in the 200m (3rd, :23.77) and Andre Lima '13 in the 400m (3rd, :54.52). Avinash Sridhar '10 placed second in the 800m (2:03.61). The Cardinal 4x400m relay squad of Pacelle, Derek Groskreutz '13, Michael Onah '13 and Kyle Shin '11 locked up second place with its 3:36.37 clocking.

Wesleyan hosted another invitational Sat., Jan. 23 with 16 teams in attendance. The Cardinals had five top-five finishes during the meet. Both Spring and Lang were among them as Spring placed second in the 1000m with a 2:35.34 clocking, just .21 seconds out of first. Lang placed third in the 3k, timed in 8:51.84. Other top efforts came from Pacelle in the 200 as he again placed third with an improved time of :23.21 while Matt Katz '11 and Seth Hafferkemp '12 placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the mile with 4:31.57 and 4:31.66 efforts.

The next opportunity for the team to compete came up Fri., Jan. 29 when the Cardinals took part in the Boston Indoor Games at Northeastern. There Wesleyan collected five teams points from the fifth-place showing of Lang in the 5k (15:02.87) and the eight-place showing of the 4x400m relay squad of Andre Lima '13, Chris Coleman '10, Derek Groskreutz '13 and Mike Onah '13 (3:34.37). Wesleyan finished in a tie for 16th of 18 scoring teams.

On Sat., Feb. 6, Wesleyan took part in the non-scoring Stampede Invitational at Tufts. There James Lawrence '12 (mug shot lower right) placed first in the 3k with a time of 8:49.24, bettering a field of 38 runners. While he and Mike Moody '10, who placed fourth in the weight throw (46-10) were the only individuals to grab a top-five finish, Wesleyan had three relays perform well paced by the 4x800 squad of Chris Coleman '10, Seth Hafferkamp '12, Nelson Norsworthy '10 and Spring '10 with a second-place showing among nine teams. Wesleyan was third of seven in the 4x400 relay and second of five in the distance medley.

Over the weekend of Feb. 12-13, Wesleyan hosted the Collegiate Track Championships, a 19-team regional championship but Wesleyan was not part of the meet's team scoring. As a result, Wesleyan competitors were not factored directly into the results. A list of the participating teams and their respective scores are posted in the link for the meet with all individual results, including Wesleyan's. A few of the Cardinals' top efforts came from Coleman and Sridhar in the 800 as they would have finished 3rd (2:01.36) and 5th (2:03.66), respectively, as well as Spring and Katz in the mile (4:24.31, 3rd ; 4:26.00, 6th - respectively).

Wesleyan will be part of the team scoring for the next event, the annual New England Div. III Championships, this year held at Southern Maine Fri.-Sat., Feb. 19-20.
