Tommie Lark '11 (photo) extended his string of indoor track meets with at least one title to four this season as he captured the long jump during the Cardinal Invitational at Wesleyan Sat., Feb. 9 with a leap of 22-3. His margin of victory was a scant 1/2 inch. He went on to take second in the triple jump while breaking the Wesleyan indoor team record with a 46-0 performance. That effort eclipsed the record of 45-10 1/2 set by Richmond Simmons in 1990. Other top finishes for the Cardinals at the meet included second place finishes in the 55m dash by Dan Manuyag '10, Scott Cole '09 in the 800m event and Dan Hymanson '11 in the 3k. Also competing on Sat., Feb. 9, but at the B.U. Valentine's meet was Sean Watson '08 (photo insert lower right). There he placed 26th overall among 127 entrants in the 5k with a time of 14:47.29. Sixth among Division III runners and first of New England Div. III entries, Watson qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships. After adjusting for the banked track (14:50.89), he is still about seven seconds over the time of the last provisional qualifier for the 2007 NCAA 5k race. Wesleyan headed back to Tufts Sat., Feb. 16, where the team had competed Feb. 2, for another invitational. This time two Cardinals placed in the top-eight of their respective events. Sam Grover '08 led the way by finishing second in the triple jump (44-10 1/4) and seventh in the long jump (19-7) while Charles Lang '11 came in fourth in the 5k (15:51.03). The team will be back at Tufts for a third time as the Jumbos host the New England Division III meet Fri.-Sat., Feb. 22-23.
