Wesleyan took part in three invitational track meets the first three Saturdays of the outdoor season and each time out Mike Moody '10 (main photo) established a team record in the javelin while winning the event. At the Elmer Swanson Invitational at Wesleyan Sat., April 14, Moody had a final throw of 187-11, adding a little more than a foot to the record he set the week before at Coast Guard and 2' 2" better than his first record-setting performance. It also was just one inch shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Sam Grover '08 (photo insert upper right) had a strong showing at the Swanson Invite as well, winning the triple jump, placing second in the long jump and fifth in the high jump. Wesleyan had the top seven finishers in the 3k, led by Alex Battaglino '07 (8:41.17). During the annual Little Three meet hosted by Williams Sat, April 21, Moody again won the javelin while adding third-place points in the hammer to his repertoire. Grover captured the triple jump (46-11 3/4), grabbed second in the high jump and third in the long jump. The Cardinals placed second as a team with 109 points, behind Williams (172.5) and ahead of Amherst (86.5). Two additional first-place efforts came from Joel Pratt '07 in the high jump and Dan McLaughlin '08 in the 110m hurdles. The team will venture to Middlebury for the NESCAC Championships Sat., April 28.
