Colby Gets Better of Cards in NESCAC Opener, 6-3, Despite Jeff Legunn '13 Wins in Singles & Doubles
Inaugurating a grueling series of nine consecutive NESCAC matches to close out the regular season with a trip to Colby Sun., March 28, the Cardinals tasted defeat for just the third time in 11 outings this season. The Mules took the match by a 6-3 count.
Jeff Legunn '13 (photo) took both his singles and doubles match at Colby, coming back from down a set to win 6-0 in the third set after capturing a tie-breaker for the second set. He and Mike Piderit '12 made short work of the #1 doubles match, winning 8-2.
The only other Cardinal winner was #3 Alex Hirsch as he took a straight set win, 6-3, 6-3. At #4, Don Kleckner '13 lost a third-set tie-breaker.
On Thurs., April 1 the squad inaugurated the spring home season with a visit from Trinity. The Bantams captured their ninth consecutive win over Wesleyan, taking a 9-0 decision. Trinity won each of the singles matches in straight sets. Legunn led Wesleyan with eight games won in his two sets. Next highest was the seven games won by Hirsch at #4.
Wesleyan takes to the road for its next outing, facing Hamilton Sat., April 3.
