Cardinals Clinch Winning Campaign with NESCAC Win Over Hamilton, Then Add Win Over Conn

Sweeping the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches, Wesleyan came away from its meeting with Hamilton Sat., April 18 as an 8-1 victor. The triumph upped Wesleyan's mark for the year to 11-7 with two matches remaining, both against NESCAC rivals. Thus, the squad clinched a winning season. The next contest pitted Wesleyan against Conn. College Thurs., April 23 in Middletown, and the Cardinals again came through with a victory, 6-3.

Top player Matt O'Connell '09 (right side of photo) and #2 talent Graham Immerman '09 (left side of photo) were two of three Cardinals to win in both singles and doubles vs. both the Continentals and the Camels, joined by Paul Gerdes '09.

With the triumph over Conn. College, the team's 12th of the year, the 2008-09 Cardinals can tie the program record for wins set in 2002 when the squad finished at 13-7. A win over Bates in the season finale in Maine Sun., April 26 would give Wesleyan an identical record.
