Cardinals Place Three on all-NESCAC Second Team Following Successful 10-5 Campaign

Men's Soccer all-NESCAC Honorees

Posting a 10-5 overall record which included two team-record performances, the Cardinals had three individuals named to the all-NESCAC second team after a vote of the conference coaches. Team co-captain Justin Mello '08 (#2, main photo), goalkeeper Jamie Hiteshew '08 (#0, photo insert lower left) and Alan Ashenfelter '09 (#12, photo insert upper left) all received NESCAC honors in 2007. Mello and Ashenfelter were two of five Cardinals to start each of the team's 15 contest this year with Ashenfelter leading the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Three of his goals counted as game-winners. Mello, a wing defender, chipped in with an assist this season as the three-year starter amassed two goals and five assists in his four-year career. Mello also received a nod to the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) senior all-star game which was held at Clark University Sat., May 3, 2008. Hiteshew shared netminding duties with fellow senior Matt Gnall '08 and posted outstanding figures of a 0.80 goals-against average (third in the NESCAC) and an .860 save percentage (second in the NESCAC) while playing 675 minutes over eight games. He had a 5-2 record for the season. The Cardinals set team marks for consecutive victories by winning 10 in a row and consecutive shutouts by posting five during the streak.
