Cards Come Back for 3-2 OT Win at Bowdoin, Earn Home Game in NESCAC Tournament
Twice rallying to tie Bowdoin with Nick Whipple '10 (#23, photo insert upper left) putting home a goal in the 70th minute to knot the game at 2-2, the Cardinals went on to defeat the Polar Bears in Brunswick, Me., Sat., Oct. 27 on Jory Kahan's '10 (#7, main photo) header six minutes into overtime. That came off a perfect corner kick by Justin Mello '08 to the far post. Earlier in the contest, Keisuke Yamashita '10 got Wesleyan even with his fourth goal of the season. With the win, Wesleyan's 10th straight this season extending its team record, the Cardinals secured the fourth seed and a first-round home game in the NESCAC tournament against Bowdoin Sun., Oct. 28. Things did not go as well for the Cardinals in the playoffs as a pair of second-half goals by the visitors gave Bowdoin a 2-0 win. Jamie Hiteshew '08 made six outstanding saves in the contest but Wesleyan was limited to only three shots on net and none past the Bowdoin keeper. Wesleyan finished the year 10-5 on the year, not quite good enough for its third straight trip to the NCAA tournament. One post-season honor has befallen midfielder Ozzie Parente '09 as he was voted CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine District I second-team academic All-America. He was one of just five players to start all 15 games this season and recorded two goals and three assists while sporting a GPA well in excess of the 3.20 minimum quaifying standard.
