Cards & Warriors Go to 2 Overtimes as Eastern Pulls Out 81-78 Win Despite 24 from Stan Grayson '09
Coming back from as much as an 11-point deficit with 11:45 to go in regulation, Wesleyan rallied to tie the game 59-59 with 2:40 to go on a Nick Pelletier '08 basket but Eastern Conn. went on to capture the 81-78 decision in two overtimes Wed., Nov 28 in Middletown. Stan Grayson '09 (#40, photo by Steve McLaughlinPhotography.com) established himself as a force with a team-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting while also grabbing nine rerbounds. Pelletier posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. Kevin Scura '09, who sank a three-pointer from the left corner at the buzzer to tie the game, 66-66, in regulation, had 14 points while Jeremy Kaminer '10 was the fourth Cardinal in double figures with 12. Wesleyan enjoyed its largest lead of the game at five points with two minutes to go in the first extra frame but ECSU scored the final five points of the period to force a second overtime. ECSU moved ahead by a 79-73 count in the second overtime only to have Wesleyan cut the gap to 79-78 in the final :30. Wesleyan missed three free throws and a trey in the last 23 ticks while the visitors added a pair from the charity stripe for the final margin. Wesleyan hosts Roger Williams Sat., Dec. 1 in its next game.
