Shooting a seven-over-par, two-day total of 149 with a 75 on the opening day and a 74 on day two, Pete Taylor '12 (photo) tied for seventh among 49 players during the annual NESCAC Championship qualifier, hosted by Williams on the Waubeeka Golf Links Sat. & Sun., Oct. 3-4. The tournament medalist shot an even par 71-71-142. Last year, Taylor was 10-over-par in the NESCAC qualifier and placed 10th of 50 players. Taylor earned second-team all-NESCAC honors with his performance for the second year in a row,
As a team, the Cardinals posted s 631 team score, good enough for eighth place among the 10 teams. Finishing second among Wesleyan players with a tie for 25th was Dan DeRienzo '11 (79-77-156) while AJ Ferraro '12 tied for 27th with his 81-76-157 score.
The Cardinals also participated in the Trinity Shootout Sat. & Sun., Oct. 10-11. Taylor added two more rounds in the 70s with a 78-76-154 score to tie for sixth place of 35 players. As a team, Wesleyan finished fifth of seven with a 657 score.
The final action of the fall came up Mon. & Tues., Oct. 19-20 when Wesleyan took part in the annual New England Championship in Brewster, Mass. There, Taylor finished the fall without shooting more than a 79 as his 79-79-158 score led the team to a 31st-place posting among 39 teams. Individually, Taylor tied for 64th among 191 participants. Ferraro was the squad's second-place finisher, coming in tied for 139th with an 87-82-169 score. As a team, Wesleyan totaled 671 stroke over the two rounds.
Over the six tournaments in which Wesleyan competed this fall, Taylor ranged between a 71 and a 79 over 12 rounds with an outstanding average round of 75.17. DeRienzo carded all of his rounds between a 75 and a 90 with six of 12 rounds in the 70s and a fine average of 80.83.
The team will resume action during the spring.
