Led by Dave Velardo '08 (photo), whose 72-80-152 total tied him for 15th in a field of 209 competitors at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association championship in Brester, Mass. Mon.-Tues., Oct. 22-23, Wesleyan placed 29th of 42 teams with a 661 total. Velardo's effort was good enought to earn him all-New England Division III laurels as a top-six finisher in his division. The Cardinals nipped 11 strokes off their score from last year while moving up five places. Velardo had his best fall season to date as he averaged 75.5 strokes during his 11 rounds, ranging from a low of 71 to a high of 80. Eli Wilson '09, who was the Cardinals' number two finisher at New Englands with a 77-89-166, had a solid 80.9 average over 10 rounds during the fall. The Cardinals will resume action during the spring.
