Trailing NESCAC rival Bates 4-1 with less that 12 minutes to go, Wesleyan got a goal from Alexa David '10 in the 59th minute and a pair of goals from Liz Chabot '12 (#4, main photo by SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com), one in the 65th minute and the second in the 68th minute, to force overtime Sat, Oct. 25. The Cards and Bobcats played 30 minutes of scoreless overtime, sending the contest into penalty strokes. Wesleyan converted its opening three attempts by Hailey Sarage '09, Chabot and Morgan McCauley '12 while keeper Breen McDonald '10 (#65, photo insert upper left) stopped two of the first three Bates shots to give Wesleyan the upper hand. Though Wesleyan failed to clinch on its fourth stroke, McDonald locked up the victory by posting her third save of the penalty-stroke period, making Wesleyan a 5-4 winner. The win allowed Wesleyan to stay alive in the NESCAC playoff hunt. A win over Conn. College in the final game of the regular season Fri., Oct. 31 will give the Cardinals a spot in the tournament.
