Following a solid 19-16 season and a third trip to the NESCAC tournament in the last eight seasons, Wesleyan placed three players on the all-NESCAC squads following the vote of the conference mentors.
Drew Dominguez '09 (#2, main photo) led the way as his .387 batting average and .955 fielding percentage earned him a first-team spot as shortstop/pitcher. He established a school record for hits in a season with 60 while cracking 10 doubles and tying for the team lead in homers with five. His 35 RBI tied for the team high and his 42 runs scored ranked second. He also is second in career hits at Wesleyan with 174. On the mound, Dominguez led the staff with a 5-2 record and five complete games while posting a 6.29 ERA. Last year, Dominguez was a second-team all-NESCAC honoree.
With spots on the all-NESCAC second team in 2009 for Wesleyan are pitcher Dusty Mones '09 (#18, photo insert upper left) and third baseman Julian Sonnenfeld '11 (#12, photo insert upper right). Mones went 3-4 on the year with wins coming against NESCAC West foes Amherst and Middlebury as well as Bates. He had a 4.70 ERA with three complete games and a team-high 47 strikeouts in 61 inning of work. Sonnenfeld, recently named a first-team CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine District I academic All-American, hit a solid .364 with a NESCAC-leading 16 doubles, two triples and three round-trippers.
With a 3-3 Little Three record in 2009, Wesleyan gained a share of the title as all three squads finished 3-3 this year.
