Alumni Help Desk → Cyrus Migration

Migration to Cyrus Mailserver

We are currently migrating remaining alumni accounts from the old e-mail server (alumni.wesleyan.edu) to Cyrus. You may receive a message saying that your mail has been transferred (see below).

Migration Message

This is the message that our system sends when your mail has been migrated to Cyrus:

From: mailnull@wesleyan.edu
To: [username]@wesleyan.edu
Sent: MM/DD/YYY HH:MM:SS A.M./P.M. Eastern Daylight Time
Subj: Congratulations [username], your mail has been transferred.

All your mail has been transferred to the new system. If you are still experiencing problems, quit your client and start again. If you believe that mail is missing or that there are other problems please send an email to wesnet@wesleyan.edu for aid if you are alumni. If you are faculty or staff, contact operations at operations@wesleyan.edu or x4100.

This is a legitimate message from Wesleyan University. You do not need to take any action but if you have problems or questions please submit a support request or call the Alumni Help Desk at (860) 685-2525.

Why Change?

The email access programs we currently use have been around a long time and have limitations, specifically in regards to performance and available features. Cyrus allows us to speed up mail considerably and will allow us to offer a variety of new tools. You will also have a larger email quota on the new system (100 MB instead of 25 MB).

Upgrade

You can authorize your upgrade now by logging in to WesNet and navigating to Resources → Cyrus Migration.

Once your account has been migrated you will benefit from an increased storage quota (100 MB, up from 25 MB), a faster server, and the ability to run simultaneous IMAP connections to your account. Alumni with @alumni.wesleyan.edu e-mail addresses can use @wesleyan.edu on Cyrus.

What happens?

When you authorize migration of your account the transition will occur early the following morning. E-mail service will be interrupted for a period of approximately 30 minutes. An e-mail notification will be sent when your migration is complete.

Signed up for WesNet?

If you have not signed up for WesNet you can sign up now with an option to reset your Wesleyan password. To complete the sign up form you will need your six-digit WesID.

Using an e-mail client?

If you connect to your Wesleyan e-mail account using a desktop client like Outlook, Apple Mail or Eudora, please check our client confirguration page to make sure that you have the lastest settings for Cyrus.

What to do if you lose access

During migration

If you get locked out of your account during migration you can regain access using the Cyrus password change form. You will need your username and your old password.

Other access problems

For other access problems you may need to reset your password (this page explains your options, including how to contact us if you need direct assistance).
