Migration to Cyrus Mailserver
Your password will not be preserved unless you take action. This page explains how to prepare, and what to do if you lose access to your account.
Synchronizing your password
Be prepared
If you do not upgrade now you will lose access when we migrate your account. If this happens, you should use the Cyrus password change form to get back in.
Why?
Under the old alumni mail system authentication took place on the same machine that stored your account, alumni.wesleyan.edu. On the new system, authentication is handled by a central service through Active Directory. When you authorize your migration to Cyrus in WesNet, you are asked to provide your password, which is then passed on to Active Directory (i.e. synchronized). However, if you do not authorize your migration now your password will not be synchronized when we move your account. What then?
Upgrade now
You can authorize your upgrade now by logging in to WesNet and navigating to Resources → Cyrus Migration.
Once your account has been migrated you will benefit from an increased storage quota (100 MB, up from 25 MB), a faster server, and the ability to run simultaneous IMAP connections to your account. Alumni with @alumni.wesleyan.edu e-mail addresses can use @wesleyan.edu on Cyrus.
What happens?
When you authorize migration of your account the transition will occur early the following morning. E-mail service will be interrupted for a period of approximately 30 minutes. An e-mail notification will be sent when your migration is complete.
Signed up for WesNet?
If you have not signed up for WesNet you can sign up now with an option to reset your Wesleyan password. To complete the sign up form you will need your six-digit WesID.
Using an e-mail client?
If you connect to your Wesleyan e-mail account using a desktop client like Outlook, Apple Mail or Eudora, please check our client confirguration page to make sure that you have the lastest settings for Cyrus.
What to do if you lose access
During migration
If you get locked out of your account during migration you can regain access using the Cyrus password change form. You will need your username and your old password.
Other access problems
For other access problems you may need to reset your password (this page explains your options, including how to contact us if you need direct assistance).
