Law
The Wesleyan Lawyers Association (WLA) is an organization of alumni/ae who have graduated from law school. It provides a forum for networking, learning about pro bono opportunities and current developments in the law, and mentoring Wesleyan students and graduates with an interest in the law.
Founded in 2009, the WLA has grown its membership and expanded its activities in lockstep with Wesleyan’s renewed focus on Professional Networks (WPNs), most recently by adding regional presences in Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Atlanta and by sponsoring networking and CLE events in those cities and in New York. Members mentor Wesleyan undergraduates and alumni interested in the law, including by hosting summer interns and WEShadow experiences.
After an initial period overseen by Core and Steering Committees, the WLA is now run by its Executive Board, consisting of our elected officers—President, Vice President and Secretary—and the Chairs of our Committees (Mentoring, Governance, Communications and University Relations). We hold regular monthly Board calls, on which participants include our regional WLA point persons (not an elected position) and Wesleyan staff.
