Mabuhay
Mabuhay is Wesleyan's annual Pan-Asian/Asian American showcase held during WesFest to collectively showcase both contemporary and traditional performances of Asian/Asian-American culture and to celebrate the diverse community at Wesleyan. "Mabuhay" is a Tagalog greeting meaning "long life."

Invisible Men/Women of Color Collective Showcase
The Invisible Men/Women of Color Showcase is an annual show put on by the men and women of color on Wesleyan's campus, with the aim of exposing prospective students to the diversity of talent, knowledge, and backgrounds of students of color at Wes. The theme of this year's showcase is FUBU For Us By Us.

Alumni Keynote Speech: ROB KING ’84
Senior Vice President, Original Content Newsgathering & Digital Media, ESPN
Rob King, who joined ESPN in 2004, oversees ESPN’s entire portfolio of newsgathering and storytelling assets across television, digital and print including the ESPN App, ESPN.com, ESPN the Magazine, ESPN Fantasy, ESPNFC, espnW, The Undefeated and FiveThirtyEight.

Named to his current position in September of 2017, King also brings his expertise to all of ESPN’s storytelling brands including ESPN Films, 30 for 30, Outside the Lines, E:60 and the cross-platform features unit. He also oversees the Stats and Information Group and leads ESPN’s Editorial Board that sets the tone and direction of ESPN’s overall content coverage and standards.

He has worked with all news platforms during his ESPN career and was previously Senior Vice President, SportsCenter and News. He also previously oversaw all global and digital content from 2007-2014. King has worked with ESPN’s many news, information and programming units to develop greater cross-platform integration and development of cross-media franchises.

What to Expect in the First Year
For most of your life, you have been encouraged to “go to college.” Well, here you are, about to embark on a journey of self-discovery, immerse in the arts, sciences, and humanities, and revel in new and exciting substantive relationships. Regardless of your academic interest or the college you ultimately choose, living and learning in a college setting will differ from high school. On this adventure, preparation, discipline, networks of support, and openness to new ideas will serve you well. This session is a chance to explore some of the typical challenges and opportunities that you may encounter during your first year of college.

Visiting Assistant Professor Casey Hayman and African American Studies majors hold a roundtable discussion on the 2018 film Black Panther and Afrofuturism.

Join Ajua Campos for Café Frida, a mixer for prospective and current Wesleyan students to get to know the Latinx community at Wesleyan. Student speakers will talk about their experience at Wesleyan as it relates to being a Latinx student.

Enjoy some of the delicious dining options that Middletown has to offer and hear our SOC program alumni keynote speaker, Shana Simmons, corporate counsel at Google, share thoughts on the Wesleyan experience and career trajectory after graduation.

SOC Fashion Show
The SOC fashion show is an event where students of color band together to not only celebrate being people of color but to showcase their talents and educate community members/admitted students about their culture, creative ideas and diversity within the Wesleyan community. This year, the show is called "All the Stars" relating to Black Panther in connection to where in the diaspora we all come from.

President of Film and Television at Chernin Entertainment
Oscar nominated producer, Jenno Topping has been involved in numerous feature films including: Hidden Figures starring Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer, The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman, War for the Planet of the Apes, Red Sparrow starring Jennifer Lawrence, The Mountain Between Us with Idris Elba and Kate Winslet, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Spy with Melissa McCarthy, Snatched starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy (which was the highest grossing comedy of 2013), and the Charlie’s Angels movies. 

Topping also oversees Chernin Entertainment’s television slate which includes Fox’s Emmy-winning hit comedy New Girl.  Upcoming films produced by Topping include Underwater starring Kristen Stewart, Tolkien and the animated feature film Spies in Disguise with Will Smith.
