WHY I CHOSE WES:

After going through the typical ‘college tour trip’, Wesleyan stood out to me. Sure, every other building seemed out of place and there’s a huge football field in the middle of campus, but more than any other attribute, Wesleyan was just plain weird—and in the best possible way. This is most apparent in the prominent dichotomy of student interests. It’s not considered out of the ordinary for a student to finish studying physics at Olin and then rush off to Terpsichore rehearsal or exercise at Freeman alongside President Roth. Wesleyan’s weirdness is what makes it distinct, but it’s also what makes it home.

ACADEMIC
INTERESTS:

Going into college, I planned on majoring in environment science for the sole purpose of having guaranteed employment during the coming energy revolution. After just the first few weeks at Wesleyan, my plans were entirely scrapped. Seeing so many students unafraid to pursue their passions gave me the courage to concentrate on what I what I care about most—improving the health of others and promoting better financial decision-making. Being at Wes has allowed me to envision a future where I’d actually be happy, not simply employed.

FAVORITE CLASS:

Philosophy and the Movies (FILM 360). This is one of the two classes that President Roth teaches every year. We watched some of the best movies in cinematic history and explored the dominant philosophical themes throughout each film. Before the course, I could hardly be considered a movie buff. But after, I am certified cinephile! I was also introduced to many obscure philosophical theories and gained a great appreciation for the philosophy behind everyday life.

CAMPUS
ACTIVITIES:

Wesleyan Student Assembly
2017 Class Council

WHY I CHOSE TO BE A TOUR GUIDE:

I often say that I’m at Wesleyan because of my tour guide. No brochure or ranking could have truly conveyed the same information that was presented to me in those 75 minutes. I know that as a tour guide, I won’t only have the opportunity to display the strong passion I have for Wesleyan. I’ll also get the chance to change lives.

FAVORITE MOVIE:

The Dead Poets Society
Hot Fuzz

FAVORITE SONG:

Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin
Wake Up by Arcade Fire

FUN FACT:

I’ve been a vegan for the past three years and I meditate every morning.
