MAJOR:
English and Government double major
WHY I CHOSE WES:

The idea of the small liberal arts school is a foreign concept in Northern California, and because I knew that I wanted an intimate community to call “home” during my college years, I began my search on the East Coast. When I toured Wesleyan, I was invited to eat lunch with a friendly bunch of upperclassmen, and we sat outside, with a view of the student body scattered across Foss Hill, enjoying the sunshine. Everything else fell into place—all of the academic opportunities matched my desires—but ultimately I made my choice based on an excellent vibe. Now Wes is the least foreign place on earth.

ACADEMIC
INTERESTS:

While I had promised myself I would not major in English in college (after all, what does one do with an English major?) the English courses at Wes are too phenomenal to pass up. I had never thought that I would major in Government, but after taking an upper-level seminar class called Women and Politics, I would like to say I found my calling. The beauty is that I can do both; it’s the best of both worlds! In the meantime, I also have room in my schedule to study Arabic, and take other elective classes outside of my major requirements.

FAVORITE CLASS:

While I could make a strong case for every class I have taken here thus far, one of the most enriching classes I have taken was Applied Theater in Prisons, a class I took as a freshman that allowed me to teach Shakespeare’s The Tempest to a collection of prison inmates at the Corrigan Radgowski Correctional Institution about 45 minutes away from campus. The experience was phenomenal, simultaneously terrifying and thrilling, and ultimately emotional and life changing. It is a testament to Wesleyan’s curriculum that instead of being stuck in a 150-person lecture class fulfilling requirements as most freshmen do, I was in a prison, helping young men change their perspectives, and hopefully their lives.

CAMPUS
ACTIVITIES:

Mentor and tutor at Green Street Arts Center
Notably Sharp, co-ed a cappella group
Work Study job at Olin Library
Half the Sky club
Middletown Press intern

WHY I CHOSE TO BE A TOUR GUIDE:

When I toured Wesleyan, I remember listening to my tour guide, and thinking, “I want to be just like her.” Now that I attend Wes, I continue to find myself meeting new people and thinking the same exact thing! I think that one of Wesleyan’s primary strengths is its eclectic, colorful, and wildly intelligent array of students. I wanted to be a tour guide because I think that you can see the beauty of College Row and be impressed by the descriptions of the school on paper, but you cannot truly understand why Wes is special until you encounter the enthusiasm of its students.

FAVORITE MOVIE:

The Bourne Series (I’m an action movie junkie.)

FAVORITE SONG:

Bitter Heart by Zee Avi

FUN FACT:

My name is on the Wesleyan Track and Field record board twice.
