Yujin Kim
Dr. Kim's research investigates political communication, media effects, and computational methods, with a particular focus on the linguistic elements and imagery involved in political discourse across various platforms. Her work aims to address democratic issues like political polarization and harmful content. She combines human insights with computational tools to analyze linguistic attributes such as tone and political identity, as well as visual features like emotions and political figures. Dr. Kim examines how online political discourse interacts with individual behavior and its broader societal impact. Her research has appeared in journals such as, the Journal of Communication, Political Communication, Digital Journalism, and Journalism Practice.
Yujin Kim (Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin) is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Wesleyan Media Project. Dr. Kim’s dissertation, titled "How Language Use on Facebook Drives Affective Polarization," received the 2022 Lynda Lee Kaid Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Political Communication Division of the National Communication Association. Before joining the Wesleyan Media Project, Dr. Kim was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Knight Research Associate at the Center for Media Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin.
