Lisa Buxbaum

Lisa Buxbaum joins Wesleyan University as a Visiting Professor in Theater, bringing over 35 years of professional experience in theatrical stage management. Her illustrious career has spanned dozens of productions, primarily on Broadway, as well as in venues across the United States and internationally. Most recently, Buxbaum served as the stage manager for An Enemy of the People, directed by the award-winning Sam Gold and starring Tony Award winner Jeremy Strong. Her collaborations with Mr. Gold on Broadway have also included King Lear with Glenda Jackson, The Glass Menagerie with Sally Field, Fun Home, and Seminar with Alan Rickman. Buxbaum has also been at the helm of stage management for notable productions such as Three Tall Women (with Glenda Jackson and Laurie Metcalf), The Cripple of Inishmaan (with Daniel Radcliffe), A Behanding in Spokane (with Christopher Walken), Mamma Mia!Frost/Nixon (with Frank Langella and Michael Sheen), and Miss Saigon (with Lea Salonga), among many other original and revival plays and musicals.

Early in her career, Buxbaum had the privilege of working with Joseph Papp at the New York Shakespeare Festival and touring internationally with Philip Glass in the renowned production of Einstein on the Beach. She is an alumna of Carnegie-Mellon University and holds a BA from NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where she focused on French alongside her theatrical studies.

Buxbaum is a strong advocate for the development of both hard and soft skills in stage management, emphasizing the importance of creating a healthy, creative, and successful working environment from the inception to the completion of a production. At Wesleyan University's Theater Department, Buxbaum will be teaching  a stage management course, advising student stage managers, and serving as the stage manager for the department's Mainstage productions.
