Alisha Butler
Alisha Butler is an Assistant Professor of Education Studies. With a focus on urban contexts, Dr. Butler's interdisciplinary research agenda considers the overlapping ecologies of schools and neighborhoods that shape students', families', and educators' experiences. Her work investigates how gentrification shapes the culture and politics of urban schools, the significance of place and space for understanding educational equity, and the politics of family and community engagement in schools. Her work has been funded by the National Academy of Education and the Spencer Foundation. Her research can be found in The Peabody Journal of Education, Teachers College Record, the Review of Research in Education, and The Urban Review.
