Women's Track Secures Highest-Ever Finish at N.E. Div. III Meet Behind 2-Event Champ Alexis Walker '16 and 3 School Records - 2 More Records Fall at N.E. Open

Alexis Walker '16 (photo) took first place in both the 60m dash and the long jump, accounting for half of the Cardinals' top prizes during the New England Division III Championships, hosted by Smith Fri.-Sat., Feb. 20-21. Wesleyan also picked up two first places in relay events, giving the Cardinals 40 of their 58 team points, putting Wesleyan in a tie for third place among 30 scoring teams. It was the highest-ever finish for Wesleyan at the regional meet, bettering the fifth-place showing by the squad during the 2000-01 campaign. Walker zipped along at a Wesleyan-record :07.74 clip in the 60m finals, a time that ranks her third nationally in Division III thus far. Her 18-3 3/4 winning leap in the long jump was just 3/4 inch off her own school record, set in 2013, and ties her for sixth nationally in Division III. The 4x800m relay squad of Sydney Cogswell '16, Nikita Rajgopal '17, Aida Julien '18 and Aidan Bardos '17 clipped 14 seconds off the Wesleyan record by winning the event in a time of 9:23.65. The same group ran 15 seconds slower during the Little Three Championships five weels earlier. Also with a title was the 4x400m relay quartet of Ellie Martin '16, Ananya Subrahmanian '18, Melissa Luning, '15 and Sarah Swenson '18, which came across the finish line in 3:59.31, defeating Williams by a scant 0.29 seconds.
