Ellie Martin '16 is NESCAC 400m Women's Track Champion, Cardinals Set 2 Relay Records While Placing 9th as a Team - Martin Adds Record at NE Open, NCAA Qualifier

Picking up 42 team points to place ninth in the annual NESCAC Championships hosted by Williams Sat., April 25, the Cardinals highlighted their efforts with 10 place-taking performances, led by Ellie Martin '16 (photo insert lower right), whose :57.49 clocking in the 400m dash gave her a conference crown. She also was part of Wesleyan's 4x400m relay, joined by Melissa Luning '15, Ananya Subrahmanian '18 and Sarah Swenson '18, for a second-place finish in a Wesleyan-record time of 3:53.64, about three seconds under the previous program record. That performance ranks Wesleyan 16th nationally in Division III. Another Cardinal record fell as the 4x800m relay quartet of Sydney Cogswell '16, Nikita Rajgopal '17, Aida Julien '18 and Aidan Bardos '17 cruised to a third-place time of 9:25.50, more than two seconds faster than any previous Cardinal squad. Orelia Jonathan '15 (main photo) provided the Cardinals with three point-getting performances in field events as she took fourth in the discus, fifth in the hammer and seventh in the shot put.
