Cardinals Use Balanced Attack with 5 Players at 5 Kills or More in Downing St. Joseph (CT), 3-0

Wesleyan swept its match with the visiting University of St. Joseph (CT) Blue Jays 3-0, (25-23, 25-20, 25-15), Tues., Sept. 30. The Cardinals upped their overall record vs. St. Joseph to 7-2 while improving their record this year to 8-5, while the loss ended the Blue Jays' seven-match winning streak, and dropped St. Joseph to 8-3. Both teams played even through the bulk of the first set, with the score tied five times during the set at seven, nine, 11, 14 and 21. After the Cardinals tied the set at 21, St. Joseph retook a two point lead to make the score 23-21. But Sarah Small '18 then followed up a kill with a service ace to cap a 4-0 run by the Cardinals and pull out the opening set, 25-23. Wesleyan jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set, but St. Joseph battled back to tie the score at 5-5. The Cardinals once again took a three-point lead at 9-6, but the Blue Jays bounced back again to tie the set at 11-11. The teams would then continue the back-and-forth play until a Tyla Taylor '18 kill gave Wesleyan a 20-17 advantage. Sarah Swenson '18 (#4, right side photo) followed with an ace, giving the Cardinals a four-point lead at 21-17, and Wesleyan rode the momentum to the 25-20 win.
