Cardinal Golf Tournament Fundraiser for Women's Athletics Attracts 127 Participants Monday, May 13, 2013
During the First Annual Cardinal Golf Tournament Fundraiser for women's athletics, 127 individuals competed in a scramble format following a buffet lunch at Lyman Orchards Golf Course in Middlefield, Conn., Monday, May 13.
Following golf, the large group of participants was joined by numerous women athletes from Wesleyan's teams among others who attended a final buffet dinner. The dinner included a brief speech by Suki Hoagland '78, one of the pioneers of women's athletics as she entered the college as a first-year in 1974 during the infancy of Wesleyan women's sports. Other pioneer women in attendance included Adrienne Bentman '74, Kathy Keeler '78, Sherry Smith '78, Fran Rivkin '78, Moira James '78 and Ann Goodwin '79. The dinner concluded with a large raffle and the final bids on the 60 silent auction items. Prize-winners from golf included first-place team of assistant men's ice hockey coaches Jim Langlois
and Jon Bellonio, golf co-head coach Jeff Gilarde and Tommy Hartnett
'14 ,were the second-place team of Dave Bagatelle '86, assistant football coach Dan DiCenzo, Todd Mogren '83 and Scott Sinclair; and the third-place team of Yale head women's soccer coach Rudy Meredith and his assistant, Todd Plourde, along with nearest-the-pin winner Micke Karlsson and Dennis Cogley. Longest drive winners were men's lacrosse coach John Raba for the men and Mace Foehl-Hemphill P'15 for the women.
