Sweep of DH at Middlebury Sets Baseball Up for Showdown vs. Amherst for NESCAC West Supremacy

Getting stellar starting pitching from Gavin Pittore '16 (#13, photo lower right) and Sam Elias '15 (#25, photo lower left) and timely hitting from a host of Cardinals, including Sam Goodwin-Boyd '15 (#9, photo upper left) and Ben Hoynes '15 (#10, photo upper right), Wesleyan swept a double-header at Middlebury Sat., April 18, 4-2 in seven innings and 18-1 in the nine-inning contest. That completed a three-game sweep of the series, improving Wesleyan's conference record to a perfect 6-0. As was the case a year ago, Wesleyan will meet Amherst over the weekend of Fri.-Sat., April 24-25 with the NESCAC West title on the line. Though Hamilton has not officially been eliminated from post-season contention, it is likely the winner of two of the three games between Wesleyan and Amherst will enter the upcoming NESCAC tournament in Nashua, N.H. May 8-10 as the top seed and tournament host. Two wins for Amherst would lock up the title for the Lord Jeffs. Wesleyan would still need to subdue Hamilton on the final weekend of the regular season to return to the playoffs as the West champion.
