Eight of 10 Cardinals Place During RIT Wrestling Invite Led by 133-Pound Runner-Up James Hamilton '16

With 10 grapplers representing Wesleyan at the annual RIT Invitational Sat., Dec. 7, eight Cardinals placed among the to six in their weight class to help Wesleyan place fifth of 11 teams in the competition.  Tops among the Cardinal contingent were James Hamilton '16 (main photo) at 133 pounds, Mike Baratz '15 (photo insert lower right) at 157 pounds and Simon Levin '16 (photo insert upper right) at 174 pounds.

Going 3-1 at 133, Hamilton placed second among 16 entries with a technical fall and a pair of major decisions before falling 4-0 in the finals.  Baratz posted a 4-1 mark at 157 in a field of 16 wrestlers to secure the title in the consolation side of the bracket.  At 174, Levin was extremely impressive in the nature of his wins while going 5-1 among 17 entrants.  Four of his five victories came via pin, three of them in the first minute of action. 

Five other Cardinals placed with Matt Pelton '17 taking fifth at 141 pounds; Chris Siracusa '16 taking sixth at 149 pounds; Joe Koshakow '17 coming in fourth at 157 pounds; Taran Carr '16 grabbing fifth at 165 pounds; and Josh Roometua '16 placing sixth at 197 pounds.

The RIT Invitational was the final action of the first semester for the Cardinals.  The next competition for the squad comes up Sat., Jan. 4 when the team attends a new invitational for them, the Williams College Invitational.
