Sierra Livious '14 Rewrites Shot Put Record While Placing in Three Individual Events to Stand Out During Opening Indoor Meet - Alexis Walker '16 Joins Livious as Three-Event Placer in Meet #2

After establishing the outdoor shot put record at Wesleyan last year with a throw of 39-10, Sierra Livious '14 (main photo) shattered the indoor mark with a put of 42-2 to win the event during the Wesleyan Invitational I to open the indoor season Sat., Dec. 1.  She eclipsed the record of 40-4 3/4 set by Kristy Williams in 2006.  Along with her first-place finish in the shot put, Livious took second in the 60m dash and third in the high jump while also competing in the 4x400m relay in a busy day's work.

Also with a solid showing in her first time in action, Alexis Walker '16 (photo insert lower right) took first place in the long jump (16-3 3/4) and the 60m dash (:08.11).  Wesleyan also had the third-place finisher in the 60m with Idara Foster '15.  In total, five teams attended the invitational.

Other top-three finishes recorded by the Cardinals include first place in the 600m by Kate Cullen '16; first place in the pole vault by Kiley Kennedy '16; second place in the weight throw by Ashley Swan '13;  a sweep of the 60m hurdles with Geneva Jonathan '15, Orelia Jonathan '15 and Leyna Donaldson '15 doing the honors in that order; first place in the 400m by Brynn Hannson '15; and a top prize by the 4x400m relay of Melissa Luning '15, Lia Monti '13, Geneva Jonathan and Foster.

The team returned to action Sat., Jan. 12 when the team hosted its second invitational of the season.  This time, with eight teams competing, the Cardinals registered 17 top-three finishes.  Three came from Walker as she won the 60m (:08.08), took third in the 200m (:28.18) and captured the long jump (16-8).  Livious repeated her top finish in the shot put (40-0), was second in the 60m hurdles (:09.59) and secured second in the long jump (15-9). Foster had a pair of strong showings as she won the 200m (:27.51) and took third in the 60m (:08.15).  Geneva Jonathan took third in the 60m hurdles while Lia Monti '13 took first (1:00.79) and Kimora Brock '15 second (1:03.72) in the 400m. Kennedy repeated as pole vault winner (8-0 1/2).  Cullen and Hansson both placed in the 600m, taking first (1:43.82) and second, respectively.  Swan was third in the weight throw with an improved toss of 41-6.  Two relays captured first and second in the 4x400 - winning with a time of 4:17.91 was G. Jonathan, Luning, O. Jonathan and Monti.  Right behind in 4:17.97 was the group of Brock, Rebecca Winkler '16, Cullen and Hannah Goodman '16.

During the Wesleyan Invitational III, held on Sat. Jan. 19 with 13 teams in attendance, Wesleyan's lone top finish came from the 4x800m relay of Cullen, Hansson, Brock and Winkler.  Walker was second in the long jump with a 16-11 1/2 effort, just 4 1/2 inches over the school record, and third in the 200m.  The Cardinals had six additional runner-up performances from Livious in the 60m hurdles, Brock in the 600m, Cullen in the 800m, Swan in the weight throw, Julia Mark '13 in the mile and Jessica Sherry '13 in the 3k.  The 4x400m relay of Monti, the Jonathan twins and Luning also took second.
